West Indies selectors have wisely chosen to stick with the players who competed against South Africa recently in naming a 22-man squad for a pre-tour training camp ahead of their imminent tour to Zimbabwe and Kenya.

Only Courtney Walsh is missing from the list of player who were beaten 2–1 and 5–2 by Shaun Pollock’s team in the test and one-day series and the signs are that captain Carl Hooper has been persuaded to abandon his attempts to make the record breaking fast bowler shelve his retirement for yet another tour.

The 22-man squad, in which only fast bowler Colin Stuart did not feature against SA, will gather in Trinidad from May 28 to June 8 ahead of the tour which begins with a triangular one-day tournament featuring Zimbabwe and India at the end of June.

WI traing squad: Chris Gayle, Leon Garrick, Daren Ganga, Brian Lara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Carl Hooper, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Wavell Hinds, Ridley Jacobs, Courtney Browne, Dinanath Ramnarine, Neil McGarrell, Dave Mohammed, Cameron Cuffy, Mervyn Dillon, Corey Collymore, Reon King, Kerry Jeremy, Colin Stuart, Mahendra Nagamootoo and Ricky Christopher.

On June 1, 2001, the Selection Committee will select a 16-man squad for the African tour. All players chosen for the tour must pass medical and fitness tests which are scheduled for June 2, 2001.
